Digitalization of the agro-industrial complex of the region: features and development trends

Abstract

Under the conditions of the global market, the agro-industrial complex (AIC) system is undergoing constant modernization to respond effectively to the challenges of the market. Digital transformation, digitalization of all types of activities and the associated proliferation of resources – information, telecommunications, digital – are now widespread in all regions of the Russian Federation. That is, digitalization resources are now becoming the most significant factor in the development of society, they affect all kinds of activities, and their competent use leads to an increase in the efficiency of any industry. The project of digitalization of agriculture has a pronounced character of modernization. It can be assumed that this project of the Ministry of Agriculture is based on an optimistic scenario (unconditional performance of the presented quantitative indicators in the specified time). The emergence of digital technologies in agriculture is based on such progressive solutions as robotization, automation and geo-positioning. Digitalization based on the use of information and communication technologies and related technological changes are considered as objective processes, as a result of technological progress. The purpose of this study is to improve the theory and practice of digital technology development in agriculture and rural areas. The paper studies the current problems of the development of digitalization of the agro-industrial sector in the Republic of Kalmykia, and presents an analysis of the current state of the region’s agro-industrial complex in the digital economy. Priority areas of the digitalization of agriculture are described. Measures to improve the efficiency of digital transformation in the Republic of Kalmykia are proposed.
